growing up me . continued

Going on in my growing up years. We left the home we had had so many good memories in. Memories like these: A pipe that ran from the basement under ground out to a garage in the back yard. You could talk through the pipe and people in the garage could hear and talk back. Such fun for us kids. Then there was the back porch with a hugh swing with a mattress like cover on it that could be used as a bed. Fun for sleeping outside in comfort in the summer. Big enought for two or three of us. Garages from neighbors that butted up against one another and made for serious hidden passage ways for us to travel through on our way to the park. The park was Waterworks Park, part of the large park system in the city. Many days were spent in the park on the swings and with lots of fun things planned by park workers to entertain us. A stream that ran under a bridge that was over the main street. How neat to walk under the bridge, catch minnows and take them home and beg Mom's to let them be pets. Climbing on old guns taken off a ship that had been in the war years before. A memorial to that war. Later those relics were placed in a special Memorial Park. They look so regal now....and I used to climb on them! Walking from that house to the neighborhood we had left where the grandparents house had been to go to church. The church was on the corner of the street I used to live on. It was like going back to my beginnings each Sunday. Years later that church with its beautiful stained glass windows was torn down to make room for Aultman Hospital. Now where it was is a parking lot. A parking lot that I was in many years later crying after the death of my Mother. Kind of like going home again in a different way. Continued

  1. Where I grew up was also paved over and we had lived next door to a older German woman who treated me as a grandchild also.
Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to be able to go back in time as an adult and look around. I wonder if it would look different somehow.
I am enjoying your series a lot!

  2. I can still go back to the house that I grew up in but it sure doesn't look the same. It's pretty run down as is the whole area. So is the house where we lived and raised our kids. It's in the same area and it's become a bit run down and the area is not as nice as it once was either. It's sad going back and seeing the area that was once so well kept.
