Squirrel follow up

More on the "criminal" squirrel. Now I feel bad cause he is now a lost pet! From yesterday's paper:
The black squirrel rousted from a convenience store on Tuesday is actually a tame pet, rescued shortly after birth. His name is Pikachu and he's no criminal, just a juvenile on the loose looking for sweets. In fact, he's only 6 months old and has a penchant for chocolate-covered peanuts, according to Teresa Donohoe. That would explain why he tied into some chocolate covered snacks at the Hawk gasoline station/convenience store, about a block from the Donhoes' home. "My husband, Brett, works for the city and was cutting down trees," she explained. "There were five baby squirrels in a nest, and only one survived. He felt bad because he'd cut down the tree the squirrels were in, so he brought him home. The baby squirrel didn't even have his eyes open." Pikachu, named for a Pokemon character, is a pet of the Donohoe children, Robby, 9, and Katie, 6. They've been looking for the squirrel since he came up missing Monday. Teresa explained that he stays in a cage outdoors but is brought indoors when it's cold. Pikachu also plays with the children and is permitted in the yard. "He must have wandered off,", Teresa said. Sgt. Doug Hines said Wednesday he can't recall any calls during his 17 years on the police force as comical as the one he and Pt. Brandon McCray handled Tuesday involving the black squirrel, who eventually rode on McCray's shoulder out of the store. The family is continuing to look for Pikachu. "We just don't want him to get hit by a car," Teresa said. Wow....hope he gets back home.

  1. I hope they find him, but now that he's had a taste of freedom, he might not want to go home. Who knows. Terry said he had a pet squirrel when he was a young. "Nutsy" He was even potty trained to go in a mason jar lid on a window sill. They had him about a year and finally the call of the wild got him but he would come back for hand outs.
