Gone in a flash!

Sunday we were on our way to church, just a tad bit late but knowing we would be there in plenty of time.  We were on the expressway heading to the exit to take us to our church.  Up ahead of us we saw flashing lights from state highway patrol cars and wondered what it could be for.  Then we realized they were escorting a truck with an extremely wide load.  I can remember we grumbled that if we had left home a bit earlier we wouldn't have ended up behind this slow moving truck with  its escort.  So we slowly made our way down the road when suddenly everyone ahead of us was stopping.  Our first thought was the truck was pulling over so the traffic could get by but that wasn't the case.  We were close enough to see men walking off the expressway down an embankment and then thought they must have lost something off the truck.  Sadly we were mistaken.  Just ahead of the convoy two vehicles were in a collision and one of the cars went off the road and down the embankment and hit a tree when it came to a stop.  The man who was driving the car that hit the tree had been changing lanes and accidentally hit the back of a car and then over compensated by heading back into the lane he had been in and went off the road.  He died!  The tree hit the drivers side of his small car and crushed him.  His wife was transported to a hospital and is stable.  Stable is for her physical condition, I am sure she is devastated by the loss of her husband.  Traffic was backed up for miles and we didn't move for quite some time.  Needless to say we never made it to church.  We did pray for these strangers as we sat there and counted our blessings though.  One moment and lives are changed in a flash.

  1. What a shame, and all because they had to hurry up and pass too fast probably. Everyone is in such a hurry these days. May he rest in peace. I did post this week and last week too Lois.

  2. Awful. Sometimes I just hate cars and traffic. Poor woman. I hope she will be alright.
