Monday...I am trying to stick my neck out but may I say again, it's Monday. I didn't sleep particularly well last night and so don't have much energy today. I haven't been blogging as much as I want so I decided that no matter what I had to say or not say I was going to get in here today. How about this weather? Strange I think. Warmer than usual for this time of year for us anyway. Then there are others getting record snow falls. I am just happy the weather here is warmer than last year at this time. We have had a real upset around here with our heating system. Our home is all electric. When we moved in here years ago it was very economical and we were satisfied. Then deregulation of electricity happened. We had been on a budget billing system and when the settle up month rolled around last year the bill shocked us. So we called the power company and were told our heating system (baseboard heat) was the most inefficient and we should consider an electric furnace. We called a company recommended to us and they assured us a new electric furnace was the way to go. Not a heat pump because it was going to cost us more money and the hubby was "poor talking" So long story short this heating system is twice as bad as what we had. We called the company to discuss the problem and the man that put it in wouldn't return the phone call. We called the owner of the company....he hung up on us after saying we should call the electric company and have the meter checked. The electric company is coming out now to check the meter but after talking to a very informed customer service man we know now that the meter is probably going to be just fine. We hadn't removed our baseboard heaters so now we have turned the new furnace off and put the heaters back in action. Our heat is much more comfortable and we are warmer with lower settings even! So we lost a lot of money buying something that didn't do the job, have huge heating bill to pay off and learned a hard lesson. The electric company will send us a letter on their letterhead saying the meter is fine......if in fact it is and I think that will be the case. We can then show the letter to the owner of the company that hung up on us and insisted the meter was bad~~~and go from there. I don't know that we will go the legal route or just suck it up and forget it. We shall see.

Oh no! We've had similar experiences the past few years. I think we are victims of our age. We grew up in a much more trusting time, and were a bit sharper. We need to put on the "caution, they're out to get you" hats, and really check things out thoroughly before committing. You might contact the local media to report the incident. It might not benefit you, but if others are made aware, it might prevent them from getting scammed too.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
I had electric heat here by the bay because there was no gas lines in back then. All electric homes were the thing when this house was built.
ReplyDeleteBut 4 years ago I had a gas furnace put in because we finally got gas lines.
I hope you can get a refund on the pump.
Oh No, what a shame Lois. We had a heat pump when we lived up at our last house and I hated it. We were cold all the time. I sure hope you can get something back from that company. I sure wish you luck. Hugs. Judy
