sign of the times

Today our local news shows interrupted all the coverage on the Oscars to say there had been a school shooting in an area very close to where two of my grandchildren live.  Not there school district, thank heaven, but too close for comfort for us grandparents.  We have been watching the TV for hours about what they are doing to get the kids to their parents and getting the school emptied.  Apparently the shooter is in custody.  He was a student at the high school.  I guess it is age and of course love of our grandchildren but we were in tears watching and seeing the emotions of parents trying to get to their children and uniting with them.  My husband called my son's  home and of course got the answering machine but left a message of what we were seeing and wanting to make sure they were aware.  In watching the news we heard about how schools now drill the students on what to do if a shooter comes into the school.  How things have changed.  All we had to learn when in school many years ago was fire drills and tornado warnings.  Oh and then when very young there was the atom bomb drills...and lol...getting under a desk!  So innocent we were back then and such awful things that seem to go on now days for young people.  I am so upset about what has transpired today and feel such angst over what my children have to cope with in raising their children.  Bless their hearts and ......we have prayed for the families of children who were injured in the shooting, looks like five were shot!  Bad day here today.

  1. I can imagine how you felt Lois as we went through something very similar lately with our one grandson, and I'm still worried about it. Apparently this kid who is black was out and about and was really acting like a real jerk and our grandson called him a nigger. Well apparently he really got mad and he brought a gun to school and he got caught thank goodness as he said he was out to get our grandson. Well they took the gun away from him and expelled him from school. That's all well and good but he still lives in and around the area somewhere and that scares me to death still. I mean these kids all drive and get around all over the place and they could just see each other anywhere. I just pray nothing happens. That's all I can do.
