Counting blessings

Well it is just so hot and I do not do well in hot weather so I must stay in the air conditioning.  I guess maybe I should be counting my blessings that I have air conditioning and don't have to suffer with the heat like some people are.  Then today as I was sitting in my recliner with my computer on my lap happily playing around.  BOOM!!!  An explosion so loud my windows rattled.  I went to the front of the house and looked out the window.  I saw black black smoke rolling up from south of the house.  It was very dark and lots of it.  Soon I heard sirens and wondered what on earth was going on.  Later it came on the TV that a natural gas well had exploded and there was a death!  I got to the newspaper for the area and found out two people lost their lives.  Apparently these two were painting in the well area when it happened.  The well cap flew 50 foot in the air.  The smoke and other things went as high as 100 feet in the air.  Fires stations from many areas came and people that take care of hazardous materials were there.  My husband who was on the way home from a trip out this morning  was stopped and told he couldn't drive down the state route that leads to our home.  When he explained he would be able to get to the turn off for our home before where the road was blocked off they let him go.  I was so glad he got home.  Not that I was in any danger but he was able to tell me what he saw and we then found out what happened.  We prayed for the families of the dead and the people helping to take care of the situation.  What a day.  Yes, I am counting my blessings.

  1. Awful.
Happened in my neighborhood around 10 years ago but, the man committed suicide by turning on the oven gas and then lighting a match.
    Huge explosion.
It was a long time until anyone bought that land and rebuilt on it.
Life can have some very sad things in it.
    Glad you are all safe.
    Your calendar is so cute!

  2. Gas had always scared me. I heard of houses blowing up and having big explosions and it's scary. I wish we didn't have gas. I'm always asking Terry to check it and change the filters so it doesn't get dirty.
